A GROUP of five friends from Aldbourne are gearing up to walk nearly 100 miles in aid of a charity set up in memory of their former schoolmate, 18-year-old Charlie Lamb, who died in a car crash in Hungerford in September. The group all attended St John’s school in Marlborough and hope to raise as much money as possible for the charity set up in memory of the Pewsey Vale FC footballer, which will support children’s sporting activities. They will also raise money for the charities Children with Leukaemia and Wiltshire Air Ambulance. They have planned their trek for February and will walk along The Ridgeway, from Ivinghoe Beacon in Buckinghamshire to Overton Hill in Wiltshire, before returning to Aldbourne. One of the trekkers, Matt Gibbs, aged 19, said: “All of us knew Charlie and were completely shocked by the news of his death. “We feel that the charity deserves a lot of support, as we all know that a sporting charity like this is a great way to remember Charlie and to let his name live on.” Television survival expert Bear Grylls, from Ramsbury, sent the group a good-luck message, saying: “These guys are setting out on a great adventure and it's an adventure that helps fantastic charities. “I admire them greatly and wish them God's speed and good luck.” To sponsor the trek, email the group at the address: theridgewaywalk@mail.com
